Benvenuto!

.01) This journal is for [info]helium_lost's 2006 Nanowrimo project.  That is, for original works of fiction.  Therefore, by requesting to be added, you are telling me that you will in no way plagiarize my work.  The same goes for artwork that I will probably be posting up on here.  You may not use my artwork for icons, graphics, etc. unless you have my explicit permission.

.02) I appreciate constructive criticism—a lot.  Anyone who knows me in the fanfiction world knows that I bug people to give constructive comments.  However, because Nanowrimo is such a rushed project, don't expect something perfect.  There are bound to be problems, so don't be offended if I don't fix them.  I'm currently focusing more on finishing than on the details; I will revise my work (and heed your comments) later.

.03) I may randomly inject bits of Italian (most likely not into the prose, though).  And there's a reason for it, I would like to think.  So if you know Italian, feel free to correct me.  I won't object at all to that :)

.04) My story deals with an underground cult ("alternative religion", if you will), so if you don't like reading about religions—especially one where the religious beliefs may contradict your own—either don't ask to be friended, or don't cause drama over it.

.05) If you are not already on my f-list for my main journal, I'd love to know how/where you found me.  It's not mandatory, but it would be nice.  :)

That's about it!  I'll add more stuff if I feel I need to.

May I be friended?

And even if you don't care to friend me, would it be too presumptuous of me to correct your Italian?

Sure thing! And having someone correct my Italian would be great, seeing how I don't actually study it or speak it (although I'm trying to teach it to myself). :)!

Okay, um, well then. Briefly put, it seems like you ran your English through an online translator because not a lot of it makes sense (the idea is there but it is really confusing).

The title and subtitle
As of right now, it reads "I feel the empty in the soul mine and because of this, vague, with the rose of twenty [something] (you've conjugated guidare with mi and something). If you're trying to say "I feel empty in my soul," you'd actually write "Sento vuoto dentro la mia anima" in Italian. "Il vuoto" means "the lonely" and words beginning with vowels have "l'" for the definite article (like "l'anima") regardless of its gender.

As for the subtitle of the journal, I'm not sure what the extra -ndo- in the middle of "guidandomi" is for, nor what you originally intended "vago" to mean. If you want "guides me" it should be "guida me"--otherwise you've got a mangled reflexive verb. "The wind" is "il vento" (so "of the wind" would be "del vento"), and I'm not sure if you can make the wind plural in Italian, as it will mean 20. Also, the "con" is just floating there.

Also, on the link options under your icon, it should be "la mia metà."

*hides under a rock* Don't spear me!

XD No problem, no problem! It's just that I take Spanish, so I mistakingly assumed that the grammar would be the same (as the simple grammar is the same). In Spanish, "mío" can go before or after the noun. Anyway, according to Wordreference.com, "to wander" is "vagare", which I think is conjugated "vago" in the first person singular. (The thing about online dictionaries is that they don't give you connotations... sigh.)

I intended "guidandomi" to mean "guiding me", but I'm not really sure how Italian gerunds work. And "wind rose" is "rosa dei venti", according to Wordref, so I dunno... I mean, you wouldn't really pluralize "wind" in English, either, but it is possible.

Anyway, thanks for the corrections! :D I love languages and know how it feals to have one totally mangled, so I try to avoid that when I can. Also, do you take Italian, or are you a native speaker of it?

Oh, oh, now I see what the subtitle was meant to read. You've got the right verb, but it's an irregular one in Italian--so you'll be wanting "vagavo" instead. Since I know what you were originally shooting for, I can untangle the "guidandomi." If guidare were reflexive, then your conjugation would be right, so with just a little bit of tweeking, it'll be fine. To say "with the wind rose/rose of the wind guiding me" it would be "con la rosa del vento guidando me."

I'm not a native speaker, but I am taking Italian right now in college. As for the question of the wind, I'll look through my books and ask my teacher to doublecheck.

Hello! This is [info]xwhomeverx posting in what will become [info]kuridee's NaNo journal, and since you two are mutual friends, I don't think she'd mind me asking for her to be friended by you.

So Jin comes up with Plot A and I come up with Plot B, and soon we'll switch and I'll write Plot A and she'll write Plot B.

Yea, the journal name was a bit of a last resort... "dogtags" was taken, and the other adjectives I thought up were awkward, so this is what it ended up as even though I'm very hemophobic. Yay for war stories!

Found you! Mwahhaaha!! I tried looking up my user name in my dad's computer, but although I think I guessed it right, but I still couldn't remember my password.. TT____TT It's my own account, and yet, I felt like I was trying to hack my way into someone else's.. X[ Ugh.. Anyway, I just gave up and just turned on my own computer so I can just sail right through. Oh yeah. By the way.. this is Jessica.. KUUUUUUU.. :D Oh crap. Forgot I was supposed to ramble somewhere else to INCREASE MY WORD COUNT. God this is depressing. I'm sorry I'm probably not making much sense right now. I'm a little stressed... Make-up homework, SATs, book club, my attempt at overcoming my anti-social spasms, failure of grammar quiz, scarlet letter.. AHHHHHH

But please ignore the rambling.. I know I'm gonna regret posting this tomorrow or two hours later, but I'm commenting to say hi. Or something. I'll talk to you tomorrow when/if I'm more coherent.

I saw your post in little_details, and decided to check out this journal on the sole (racist) basis that you're asian. Or, seemed to be asian. Heh, I go to a semi-Asian school -- about 20-25%, which is by far the highes concentration of Asians at one school here in DE. But I went to an arts middle school and in my grade, out of 139 students, it was just me and my half-Chinese friend Elaine. XD

Hello! I'm a student of the Italian language, and found you via [info]impextoo

sento vuoto dentro la mia anima
e a causa di questo, vagavo, con la rosa dei venti guidando me

"Guidando" is the progressive tense of the verb "guidare"--so your title is trying to say that the winds are guiding you. However, in Italian, progressive is conjugated with the verb "stare" as well. Therefore, it should read "con la rosa dei venti stanno guidando me". If you just wanted to say "con la rosa dei venti guidanno me," that would also be acceptable, guidanno being the third person plural indicative.

Hope you don't mind the comment to correct your grammar.

[info]druidspell

LOL, they're a lot more similar than say, French and Italian, but Spanish and Italian are only close enough to screw people up. :) It happened to almost every student in my classes (101, 102, and 201) who took Spanish in high school, so you are not the first. And you at least got guidando right--you just missed the conjugated verb

For progressive in Italian, -ando is attached to the end of every verb with an -are ending. For -ere and -ire endings, it becomes -endo in the progressive. So guidare becomes guidando, pulire (to clean) becomes pulendo, and bere (to drink, irregular) becomes bevendo.
*There are only three irregular verbs in progressive tense, and that's because, as Latin became Italian, the Italians dropped the middle syllable. So facere (to do) became fare in the new language, but remained facendo in progressive, and dicere (to say) became dire but was dicendo in progressive, and bevere (to drink) became bere but remained bevendo. The words kept their Latinate formation in progressive mostly because in was easier to say "facendo" than "farendo" or "fendo", and also because progressive tense isn't actually used that much in modern Italian--they mostly use the indicative tense to express that they do something regularly and are doing something at the moment.
[/language lecture]
